"This book gave my son anxiety."
He read the whole thing in one night hiding under his covers with a flashlight. He has school tomorrow. I am confiscating it. Five stars for the flashlight industry.
"The protagonist is too relatable."
I am a 34-year-old accountant and I have not felt feelings like this since I was 17. I did not appreciate being ambushed by my own teenage self. I cried on the train.
"Too short."
I finished it in a single afternoon and now I have to wait for Part 2 like some kind of ANIMAL. The author owes me a formal apology and a timeline.
"I missed my exit."
Was listening on audiobook. Missed my exit. Then the next exit. Ended up in a different state. Still worth it. Do not recommend for navigation purposes.
"This is not a book for adults."
The publisher says Young Adult. I am 52. I read it anyway. I told my book club it was research. They didn't believe me. Neither do I.
"The main character doesn't listen."
I kept yelling at her to just COMMUNICATE WITH THE ADULTS IN HER LIFE and she absolutely refused every time. Incredibly accurate teenager. I hated it. I need Part 2.
"My dog got jealous."
I was reading instead of giving him attention and he kept putting his face on the pages. I had to pet him WITH ONE HAND and read with the other. Very inconvenient. 10/10 book.
